EduTrace does not sell, lease, or monetize your personal information or study metrics. By default, 100% of your academic records, timers, and subject logs remain strictly isolated within your device's local database.
01 Core Philosophy & Application Identity
This Privacy Policy governs the EduTrace mobile software application (Package ID: org.sabbir.edutrace), engineered by Md. Sabbir Hoshen Howlader ("Developer", "we", "us", or "our"). EduTrace was built as an offline-first study companion designed to empower students, researchers, and professionals to master their learning schedules without surrendering digital autonomy.
We believe your focus and learning habits are deeply personal. Unlike conventional habit apps that inject ad trackers and sell behavioural metrics to data brokers, EduTrace enforces an architectural separation between your study data and the outside internet.
02 Android Device Permissions & Explicit Justifications
In compliance with Google Play Store Developer Guidelines and standard OS privacy paradigms, every permission requested by EduTrace is tied directly to a visible user-facing function:
| Permission | System Scope | Functional Necessity & Data Safeguard |
|---|---|---|
| PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS | Special Access / Digital Wellbeing |
App Usage Warden (Distraction Blocker): Allows the user to detect when distracting non-study apps are active during a focus interval.
Privacy Guarantee: Usage statistics are evaluated entirely in real-time in volatile device RAM; application histories are never recorded to disk, uploaded to servers, or shared with third parties. |
| SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW | Display Over Other Apps | Overlay Distraction Nudge: Displays a non-intrusive focus reminder overlay if the learner opens a blocked social application during an ongoing study timer. |
| FOREGROUND_SERVICE | System Service Priority | Persistent Focus Stopwatch: Keeps the active study session timer executing reliably even when your phone screen turns off, preventing Android battery optimizers from killing active intervals. |
| POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Android 13+ (API 33) | Timer Controls & Reminders: Displays ongoing timer durations with Play/Pause actions in your notification tray, and delivers user-configured study alarms. |
| READ_PHONE_STATE ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY |
Telephony & Do Not Disturb |
Automatic Library Mode: Detects incoming calls while an active study session is engaged to automatically mute ringers and silence interruptions.
Privacy Guarantee: EduTrace never listens to, accesses, reads, logs, or transmits phone numbers, contacts, or call recordings. |
| RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Boot Startup Receiver |
Study Reminder Restoration: Restores user-scheduled study alarms via Android WorkManager after the phone is powered back on.
|
| INTERNET ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Network Connectivity | Updates & Optional Cloud Sync: Used to check GitHub Releases API for app update packages, download dynamic OBB asset packs, and synchronize study records if the user explicitly registers an EduTrace Cloud account. |
03 Data Storage: 100% Offline by Default
A. Local SQLite Room Database
By default, EduTrace stores all degrees, subjects, study sessions, milestone dates, notes, and focus durations inside an internal SQLite database managed via Android Jetpack Room (StudyDatabase.java). This database resides strictly within the sandboxed storage sandbox allotted to EduTrace on your device. Other applications installed on your phone cannot access this data.
B. Optional EduTrace Cloud Sync
Users who desire cross-device synchronization and global leaderboard rankings may optionally register an EduTrace Cloud account.
- Account Credentials: If you register, we store your username, email address, and a cryptographically salted password hash. We never store plain-text passwords.
- Transport Security: All API requests to the EduTrace Cloud sync infrastructure are encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3 / HTTPS) with JSON Web Token (JWT) bearer authentication.
- Leaderboard Visibility: If enabled, only your chosen public display name and net study minutes are computed for leaderboard standings. Private study notes or subject names remain confidential.
04 Digital Wellbeing & Distraction Warden Privacy
Our "App Usage Warden" feature is engineered strictly for self-discipline:
- We do not track your keystrokes or text input.
- We do not monitor the internal contents of third-party apps (e.g. messages, feeds, accounts).
- We do not transmit lists of installed applications to any external server.
- All heuristic checks occur locally inside
AppBlockService.javain volatile device memory and expire immediately upon completing your study session.
05 Zero Ads & Third-Party SDK Disclosure
EduTrace maintains a strict zero-telemetry policy:
- Zero Ad Networks: No Google AdMob, Unity Ads, AppLovin, ironSource, or similar commercial SDKs.
- Zero Behavioral Tracking: No Facebook SDK, Firebase Analytics, Adjust, or AppsFlyer trackers.
- GitHub Releases: The built-in in-app update checker queries public endpoints of the GitHub API (
https://api.github.com/repos/sabbir28/EduTrace/releases/latest) to compare semantic version tags. This connection is subject to GitHub's standard public API privacy policy.
06 User Rights, Data Portability & Account Deletion
Whether subject to GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), or applicable regional privacy legislation, you retain full sovereignty over your data:
- Local Data Deletion: You can purge all local databases immediately by navigating to Android Settings → Apps → EduTrace → Clear Storage / Clear Data, or by simply uninstalling the application.
- Cloud Account Deletion: If you created an EduTrace Cloud account, you may request permanent deletion of your profile, email, authentication tokens, and backup archives at any time. Simply send an email to sabbirb228@gmail.com with the subject "EduTrace Account Deletion Request". All associated database records are irreversibly purged within 48 hours.
